It queries recently deactivated Smart Campaigns via the Marketo API, checks each one against clear naming conventions, and reactivates only the campaigns that are expected to stay available even when activity is low. This keeps the hygiene benefits of the native cleanup, while protecting critical automations from being switched off by default. The flow is straightforward. After the cleanup window, the job retrieves deactivated campaigns, applies rules based on established naming patterns, reactivates those that match, and leaves the rest off. It also logs actions for traceability. This approach is governance friendly. Marketing operations can oversee and adjust the naming rules as the program library evolves. We considered alternatives. Continuing the manual process would not scale and carried a higher risk of oversight. Using a generic automation tool was possible, but a small Python job calling the Marketo API provided more control, less overhead, and simpler maintenance.
